Where is Pōrangahau located?
Pōrangahau is a small coastal settlement south of Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It’s approximately 50 minutes from Waipukurau and around 2 hours from Napier.

No, but if you have a Sky Go account you can chrome cast to the TV. Bring your WiFi or your your phone data.
What’s the beach like in Pōrangahau?
Pōrangahau Beach is long, quiet, and unspoilt, with soft sand and rolling surf. It’s ideal for walking, fishing, swimming (conditions permitting), and relaxing. The beach is generally safe in calm conditions, but like many open east coast beaches, it can have strong currents and rips. There are no lifeguards, so swim with caution and always check the conditions.
What facilities are in the area?
The town has a small general store (dairy), a café/pub (the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel), and basic services. There’s no large supermarket, so it’s best to stock up in Waipukurau or Dannevirke before arriving.
Can I fish or launch a boat at Pōrangahau Beach?
Yes! Surfcasting is popular along the beach, and small boats can be launched depending on conditions. There’s no formal boat ramp, so it’s best suited to 4WD vehicles.
